The Basic Worksite Traffic Management (BWTM) and Traffic Controller (TC) course is the Main Roads WA accreditation requirement to safely implement traffic management for works on or near roads and, to control traffic using a stop slow bat in Western Australia.
Upon successful completion, you will be issued with:
- Nationally recognised Statement of Attainment
- MRWA Certificate of Accreditation valid for three years.
- MRWA Traffic Management ID Card with photo valid for three years.
Course Overview
This course provides participants with the theory and practical skills required to implement traffic management and control traffic on roads. This course is delivered face-to-face and includes practical training and assessment in a real-world environment.

Course Duration and Location
- 3.5 days
- Arrival 7.45am | Commencement 8.00am
- Training will take place at Stark Training, 45 McCombe Road, Bunbury (Practical training will be conducted in surrounding areas)
Entry Requirements
To enrol in this course, you must have
- A valid Construction Industry White Card
- A current or previously held Australian Driver’s Licence
- A Unique Student Identifier (USI)
Skills & Physical Requirements
Participants should also have:
- Basic English literacy and numeracy skills
- Ability to read and interpret traffic control diagrams
- Ability to follow written instructions and complete safety documentation
- A reasonable level of physical fitness and health, including:
- Setting up and packing down of signs and devices
- Lifting equipment up to 10kg
- Walking on uneven ground
- Maintaining concentration for extended period

- Hi-vis shirt
- Long pants
- Steel cap boots
- Gloves
- Sun protection (hat, sunscreen)
- Water and lunch
On the day
- Arrive 15 minutes before start time
- Ensure you bring all required documentation
- Morning tea is provided (tea & coffee facilities available)
- Please advise any dietary requirements at enrolment.
